Performance Ensemble:

The Norma’s Academy of Dance Performance Ensemble was formed at Norma’s Academy of Dance in 1978 by the late Norma B. Mitchell. Founder Mitchell created the Ensemble to first promote cultural arts and dance in the community; and secondly to serve as a vehicle for the best and brightest students of the Academy to receive exposure and recognition for excellence in dance.

Since community service is a primary focus, the Performance Ensemble performs at many social and community events. Performance venues also include nursing homes, public schools, colleges, churches and corporate and civic events.

Members of the Ensemble have performed for:

• The National Black Journalist's Convention for President Bill Clinton

• Who’s Who in Black Atlanta for Dr. Joseph Lowery and Dr. Andrew Young,

• 100 Black Men of Atlanta, Parade of Excellence

• Turner Broadcasting Trumpet Awards

• Tarlee Brown, renowned Atlanta Architect 65th Birthday Celebration at the Georgia International Convention Center

• Carnival in Montego Bay, Jamaica

• Ministry of Tourism, Nassau, Bahamas

• WSBTV Children’s Healthcare Parade for Walt Disney World Productions

• Festival of Trees

• and much more. . .

Ensemble members have also won numerous regional and national awards in dance competitions throughout Georgia and the United States. All ensemble members are expected to maintain and an acceptable level of academic achievement while participating in a rigorous class and rehearsal schedule.

Several of the members have been chosen and have attended summer intensive programs with the Dance Theatre of Harlem, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Philadanco, Dallas Black Dance Theatre and the Joffrey Ballet.
